Makinde Appoints Abimbola Owoade as New Alaafin of Oyo
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has approved the appointment of Prince Abimbola Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo. The announcement was made on Friday by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade.
According to Oyelade, the decision followed extensive consultations and traditional divinations carried out by the Oyomesi, the kingmakers of the Oyo Kingdom. He stated that Owoade’s selection received the governor’s approval after a thorough and careful process.
Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ademola Ojo, highlighted the significance of the appointment, noting that it resolves the disputes that arose after the passing of the former Alaafin, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, on April 22, 2022.
“This decision has put to rest all the socio-legal controversies that have arisen since the transition of the late Oba Adeyemi. We urge the people of Oyo State to support the new Alaafin and join the government in celebrating this historic moment,” Ojo stated.
The state government expressed optimism that the reign of Prince Abimbola Owoade would usher in an era of peace, unity, and prosperity for the Oyo Kingdom.
