Lagos Ex-Deputy Governor Loses Only Son Suddenly

The Lagos political scene is in mourning after the sudden passing of Dr. Oluwafemi Olawale Adefulire, the only son of Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, a prominent figure in the state’s ruling party. Dr. Adefulire, a UK-based medical doctor, died in the early hours of Wednesday following a surgical procedure in Dubai. Family sources say the loss was completely unexpected and has left relatives and associates devastated. He is survived by his wife and children.

News of his death has rippled through the All Progressives Congress in Lagos, where Orelope-Adefulire holds longstanding influence. Messages of sympathy have continued to pour in, with party officials describing the tragedy as deeply shocking. In a statement quoted by Vanguard, APC Lagos spokesperson Seye Oladejo said the development had shaken the entire party, noting that Orelope-Adefulire is widely appreciated for her generosity and leadership.

Orelope-Adefulire, fondly regarded as “Mama Alimosho,” served as Lagos deputy governor from 2011 to 2015 and currently advises the presidency on Sustainable Development Goals. Her career spans decades in public service, including years as commissioner for women affairs and poverty alleviation, and she remains an influential voice within the APC’s highest decision-making structures in Lagos.

The loss of her son has cast a pall over Alimosho and the wider political community, where she commands broad respect. As of the time of reporting, the family had yet to announce burial plans, with close associates saying they are still grappling with the enormity of the tragedy.
