Kogi Government Urges Christian Worship Centers in High-Risk Areas to Relocate After Church Abduction

The Kogi State government has urged worship centers in high-risk areas to consider relocating due to rising insecurity. This warning comes after gunmen attacked a Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Ejiba, Yagba West Local Government Area, on Sunday, abducting the pastor, his wife, and several worshippers during an early morning service.

Kingsley Fanwo, Commissioner for Information, advised churches on the outskirts to avoid meeting in vulnerable locations until security improves. He emphasized the need for vigilance, community intelligence, and close cooperation with security agencies, noting that efforts are underway to rescue the abducted individuals.

The attack follows a recent abduction at Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State, and comes just days after Governor Usman Ahmed Ododo revealed that bandit commanders had moved into Kogi to intensify attacks. The governor assured that the government and security agencies would take proactive measures against these criminal elements, stressing that no ransom would be paid and that residents must remain security-conscious.

In response to the threat, the State Security Council has ordered that all public gatherings, including religious and social events, conclude by 4 p.m. until further notice, as part of broader efforts to protect citizens and curb criminal activity in the state.
