Kaduna Speaker Raises Alarm Over Threats from El-Rufai’s Son Amid Probe
The Kaduna State House of Assembly has been rocked by controversy as Speaker Yusuf Liman raised alarm over alleged threat messages from Bello El-Rufai, the son of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai. The threats come amidst a probe panel investigation into the financial dealings of Nasir El-Rufai’s administration from 2015 to 2023.
The Assembly’s decision to set up an ad hoc committee to investigate various aspects of the previous administration has prompted a strong reaction from Bello El-Rufai, who currently serves as the House of Representatives member for Kaduna North Federal Constituency. Liman accused Bello of resorting to intimidation tactics, including sending insulting and subtle threat messages via WhatsApp.
In a statement issued by Liman’s media aide, Malam Suraj Bamalli, the Speaker condemned Bello’s behavior, citing disrespectful tweets and direct threats aimed at obstructing the Assembly’s lawful functions. Despite the intimidation, Liman affirmed the Assembly’s commitment to upholding justice, transparency, and accountability in Kaduna State.
The escalating tension has raised concerns among the citizens of Kaduna State, with many questioning the conduct of a Federal lawmaker entrusted with representing the people. Screenshots of the alleged threats have circulated widely, fueling public apprehension over the unfolding situation.
Efforts to reach Bello El-Rufai for comment were met with dismissive remarks, further exacerbating the standoff between the Assembly and the former governor’s son.
As the controversy unfolds, Kaduna residents remain vigilant, emphasizing the importance of transparency and adherence to the rule of law in the state’s governance. The Kaduna State House of Assembly vows to press forward with its investigation, undeterred by attempts at intimidation or obstruction.
