JUST IN: Terrorists Abduct 232 Students, Teachers in Kaduna School; Police Launch Rescue Operation
Gunmen suspected to be terrorists, commonly referred to as bandits, have abducted no fewer than 232 students and teachers from LGEA Primary School in Kuriga village, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The victims, including the school’s headteacher and other staff, were forcibly taken on Thursday morning.
Former Kaduna senator, Shehu Sani, confirmed the incident via his X platform on Thursday, highlighting the gravity of the situation. Notably, this abduction occurred in the same village where a school principal, Idris Sufyan, was killed and his wife kidnapped just over a month ago. Sani expressed optimism about securing the victims’ freedom despite the tragic circumstances.
The junior and secondary schools had relocated to the school building inside Kuriga town a few years ago due to escalating insecurity concerns, abandoning their previous location outside the town. This incident further underscores the persistent security challenges faced by educational institutions in the state.
Mansir Hassan (ASP), the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, confirmed the abduction. While the exact number of victims remains unconfirmed, Hassan assured that additional security personnel have been deployed to the area for a swift and comprehensive rescue operation.
“It’s true, kidnapping occurred; presently, we have deployed additional security personnel in the bush to rescue the victims,” stated Hassan. He emphasized the collaborative efforts of various security agencies in the state, including the police, military, vigilante groups, and others, working diligently to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted students and teachers. The situation remains fluid, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
