JUST IN: Sources Reveal Tinubu Government Proposes ₦105,000 New Minimum Wage

The Nigerian government, under President Bola Tinubu, is moving towards a significant increase in the national minimum wage. On Thursday, Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, presented a new wage proposal to President Tinubu during a meeting at the State House in Abuja. Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, was also present.

Sources revealed that Edun’s proposal, submitted within a 48-hour deadline, suggests a new minimum wage of ₦105,000 (approximately $220 USD) per month for Nigerian workers. President Tinubu is currently reviewing the proposal, with an official announcement expected soon.

This development comes as the government aims to address the contentious minimum wage issue, which has caused repeated negotiation delays. The proposed wage hike is expected to be discussed at today’s tripartite committee meeting, which includes representatives from the government, organized labour, and the private sector.

The urgency of the government’s actions reflects its commitment to resolving the ongoing disputes. Earlier, a proposed minimum wage of ₦60,000 was rejected by labour representatives, leading to a nationwide strike on Monday. The strike was suspended on Tuesday following successful interventions and agreements between the government and labour groups.
