JUST IN: President Tinubu Appoints Professor Jega as Special Adviser

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Attahiru Muhammadu Jega as Special Adviser and Coordinator of the Presidential Livestock Reform initiative. The former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will play a key role in driving reforms aimed at improving the livestock sector and strengthening national development efforts.

The appointment, announced on Friday, follows Jega’s previous role as co-chair of the Presidential Livestock Committee alongside President Tinubu. The committee was instrumental in formulating recommendations for sustainable livestock reforms, including the creation of a dedicated Livestock Ministry, which has since been established with a minister at its helm.

Professor Jega, 68, is a former vice chancellor of Bayero University and currently serves as a member of the International Elections Advisory Council. He is also the pro-chancellor and chairman of the governing council of Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education in Kano State.

Jega’s tenure as INEC chairman from 2010 to 2015 saw significant electoral reforms, earning him recognition for his role in strengthening Nigeria’s democratic process. His new position as special adviser to President Tinubu is expected to build on the work of the presidential committee, ensuring that ongoing livestock sector reforms are effectively implemented.
