JUST IN: President Tinubu Appoints New Director General for NIMASA
President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Dayo Mobereola as the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), marking a significant development in the agency’s leadership trajectory. Dr. Mobereola’s appointment comes on the heels of the conclusion of Mr. Bashir Jamoh’s tenure.
A seasoned professional in the field, Dr. Mobereola brings a wealth of expertise to his new role. With a PhD and an MSc in Transport Economics from the University of Wales, United Kingdom, he is well-versed in the intricacies of maritime administration. His credentials also include fellowships with the Chartered Institute of Transport in both England and Nigeria.
Prior to this appointment, Dr. Mobereola served as the Managing Director of Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) from 2003 to 2015 and later as the Commissioner for Transportation in Lagos State from 2015 to 2016. His tenure in these roles was marked by notable achievements and innovations in transportation management.
Moreover, his private sector experience is equally impressive. He held positions such as Deputy Managing Director and Project Development Director at AFM Consulting Plc in London, as well as Senior Economist at British Petroleum Shipping Limited, London.
In a statement released by Ajuri Ngelale, media aide to President Tinubu, it was emphasized that the President expects Dr. Mobereola to leverage his extensive background to advance NIMASA’s mission. The directive is clear: to uphold global standards of maritime safety administration, maritime labor regulation, marine pollution prevention and control, search and rescue operations, cabotage enforcement, shipping development, and ship registration.
Dr. Mobereola’s mandate aligns closely with the objectives outlined in the Renewed Hope Agenda for the maritime sector, under the stewardship of the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola. As he assumes his new responsibilities, Dr. Mobereola’s appointment signals a commitment to driving excellence and progress within NIMASA, thereby bolstering Nigeria’s maritime industry on the global stage.
