JUST IN: FG Declares Thursday, Friday as Public Holidays

The Federal Government has announced Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark Eid-ul-Fitr, the festival that concludes the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, approved the declaration on behalf of the government. The announcement was conveyed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Magdalene Ajani.

In the message, the minister congratulated Muslims on completing Ramadan and urged them to uphold the values observed during the fasting period, including compassion, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice.

He also called on Nigerians to use the holiday to pray for national stability and progress, while encouraging citizens to celebrate in a responsible manner and support vulnerable members of society.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to promoting unity and peaceful coexistence across the country.
