Jammie Booker Stripped of World’s Strongest Woman Title for Failing to Disclose She’s Transgender
American athlete Jammie Booker has been stripped of her title as the world’s strongest woman after failing to inform organisers that she is transgender. Booker had initially beaten Britain’s Andrea Thompson to claim victory at the Official Strongman Games World Championships 2025, held over the weekend in Arlington, Texas, but questions about her gender soon emerged.
The organisers confirmed that Booker, who is biologically male and identifies as female, competed in the Women’s Open category without disclosure. They said attempts to reach her were unsuccessful and emphasised that competitors must compete according to the biological sex recorded at birth. “If we had known, this athlete would not have been permitted to compete in the Woman’s Open category,” the statement read. Following her disqualification, the results have been adjusted to reflect the rightful standings of the women athletes.
While stressing that the competition welcomes all athletes, organisers said fairness in sport remains essential. Rebecca Roberts, a three-time world champion, weighed in on social media, pointing out that even organisers were unaware of Booker’s background. She argued that physical differences in strength sports make women’s categories necessary and congratulated Thompson as the rightful World’s Strongest Woman 2025.
A 2017 video resurfaced in which Booker discussed her identity as a trans woman, drawing renewed attention to the controversy.
