International Community Urged to Intervene as Nigerian President Faces Certificate Forgery Allegations
Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has called upon the international community, including the EU, US, UK, and ECOWAS, to intervene in the ongoing controversy surrounding Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s alleged certificate forgery.
The controversy centers on documents from Chicago State University (CSU), which, under oath, affirmed the attendance of a person named “Bola. A. Tinubu” but denied issuing the diploma certificate presented to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his candidacy in the Presidential election on February 25, 2023. According to CSU records, the admission entry results and a purported GCE certificate from Government College Lagos 1970 and South West College Illinois were forged. It was discovered that the latter certificate contained particulars of a female, including a Social Security Number, raising questions about its authenticity.
Additionally, conflicts in dates of birth have emerged, with the CSU transcripts listing the date as March 29, 1954, while Tinubu’s submission to INEC stated March 29, 1952. This contradiction suggests possible perjury, as Tinubu swore under oath to the latter date in his INEC documents.
Comrade Timi Frank asserted that these revelations demonstrate a pattern of forgery and dishonesty, both within Nigeria and abroad. He argued that, in light of the confirmed certificate forgery, President Tinubu is constitutionally unfit to remain in office. Section 137(1)(j) of the constitution explicitly disqualifies any individual who has “presented a forged certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission” from holding the office of President.
Frank called upon supporters of democracy, former Presidents, retired Supreme Court Justices, traditional rulers, labor unions, student associations, medical and legal associations, and civil society organizations to prepare for mass action to compel Tinubu’s resignation. He further urged ECOWAS to request Tinubu’s resignation as chairman, warning that his legitimacy had been eroded by the act of forgery.
The ULMWP Ambassador to East Africa and the Middle East argued that President Tinubu’s continued tenure would hinder Nigeria’s economic growth, discourage foreign investment, and tarnish the nation’s image on the global stage. He emphasized the importance of the upcoming Supreme Court decision in addressing this crisis and maintaining the integrity of Nigeria’s democracy.
