Insecurity: Pastor Tells Followers to “Go and Get Fortified”
A video circulating on TikTok has drawn widespread attention after a man identifying himself as Pastor Oloruntimilehin Daramola urged his followers to “get fortified” for protection against violent attacks. The footage, posted on the handle @kingbosoro, shows him dressed in a purple robe and cap, wearing a cross necklace as he delivers the message. Verification of his identity, the authenticity of the account, and the timing of the sermon remains unavailable.
In the video, the self-described Founder of The Omnipotence Mission of God tells his congregation to take measures he claims would shield them from armed assailants. He also calls on the Federal Government to allow widespread civilian gun ownership and suggests that Nigeria’s major regions could part ways peacefully if the current national structure is no longer workable. He then shifts to urging his followers to embrace forms of protection he describes as essential for survival.
“You members, go and do something that can protect you, so that if they come with guns to your surroundings, they will face each other and shoot each other,” he says at one point, adding unconventional examples including releasing bees on attackers or rendering intruders incapacitated before they reach a place of worship. He insists his church members must comply, warning he will expel anyone who refuses.
Declaring himself “a good shepherd,” he argues that he cannot remain protected while his followers are vulnerable. He references past attacks on churches, claiming that calling on Jesus did not prevent casualties. He mentions branches of his ministry “in America, London, and even in Nigeria,” inviting people to meet him privately for what he calls “the right steps to take.” Responding to criticism, he says he is unbothered by labels from detractors, asserting that he lacks supernatural powers but would still defend himself if necessary.
The video has sparked debate online, yet key details about the pastor and his claims have not been independently confirmed.
His statements come at a time of persistent insecurity across Nigeria. Communities nationwide have faced recurring attacks on homes, farms, schools, and places of worship. One of the most shocking incidents occurred on June 5, 2022, when attackers stormed St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, using explosives and firearms, killing and injuring many worshippers. The tragedy intensified calls for better intelligence gathering and stronger protection for vulnerable communities.
In November 2025, gunmen attacked Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, a border town in Kwara State, killing worshippers and abducting dozens. Thirty-eight victims were later freed, bringing some relief to the area. Another recent assault targeted St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Niger State, where attackers raided the premises between 1 am and 3 am, kidnapping students and teachers from both primary and secondary sections. The Christian Association of Nigeria reported that 303 children and 12 staff members were taken. Fifty students later escaped, though many remain missing.
