INC Warns IPOB Against Dragging Ijaw Nation into Planned Attack on Military, Asserts Non-affiliation with Biafra

The Ijaw National Congress (INC), the apex Ijaw socio-cultural organization globally, has issued a stern warning to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) against involving the Ijaw nation in its alleged plan to attack military installations in Bayelsa and Delta states. This warning comes in response to reports of IPOB’s intention to retaliate against military actions in Okuama and Igbomotoru communities.

In a recent video circulating online, Simon Ekpa, leading a faction of IPOB, purportedly directed the closure of roads leading to Delta and Bayelsa states to protest the alleged killings by the military in Okuama and Igbomotoru. He declared IPOB’s intent to avenge these deaths and proclaimed a sit-at-home order in the affected states.

However, President of the INC, Prof Benjamin Okaba, emphasized that the Ijaw ethnic nationality has never consented to be part of the Biafra Republic and distanced the Ijaw people from IPOB’s planned attacks. He reiterated the INC’s condemnation of the violence in Okuama and Igbomotoru, urging for a thorough investigation by the military authorities.

Prof Okaba denounced IPOB’s threat as unacceptable, particularly as efforts are underway to identify those responsible for the recent incidents. He clarified that the affected communities are Ijaw territories and stressed that the Ijaw nation has not sought support from IPOB or any other group for its self-determination cause.

Furthermore, Prof Okaba called on the Federal Government to take note of the INC’s stance and take decisive action against any group attempting to turn the region into a battleground. He urged Ijaw people to remain calm, vigilant, and united in the face of these developments.

The INC’s warning underscores the need to prevent further escalation of tensions and ensure the security and stability of the Niger Delta region.
