“I’m No Longer Part of the Family” – Kemi Olunloyo Disowns Olunloyo Name After Father’s Death, Gives Reasons

Controversial media personality Kemi Olunloyo has publicly disassociated herself from her family following the death of her father, former Oyo State Governor and renowned Mathematician, Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo. The elder Olunloyo passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at the age of 89.

In a series of posts and videos on her Facebook and TikTok pages, Kemi declared that she no longer identifies with the Olunloyo family and would not be receiving condolences on her father’s passing. She stated, “I am uploading video statements on my father’s death on TikTok. I am not part of the Olunloyo family anymore and told you that in 2024 that I will never return to Nigeria even if my parents died. I am not accepting anybody’s condolences because I am not condoling with anybody.”

Though she noted she had forgiven her father, Kemi described him as a man who led a double life—publicly admired but privately abusive. She accused him of emotionally and physically tormenting his children and destroying the family unit. “My father, Victor Omololu Olunloyo, is two different people. He was one person to the world; he was another person to the family,” she said, adding, “My father marketed me as his favourite daughter… but I was far from being his favourite. He used me for a lot of things.”

She further alleged that her father was involved in occult practices, which he later abandoned after becoming born again under the guidance of Pastor E.A. Adeboye. “My father was into ‘juju’ heavily. I called him out on his 80th birthday. After I did, he went to Pastor Adeboye and gave his life to Christ,” she said.

Kemi also pointed to family conflicts stemming from her father’s relationship with Aderonke Omololu Olunloyo, formerly Ronke Sonaike, whom he met during his 1983 governorship campaign and later married. She claimed that this relationship deeply affected her mother and further fractured the family. “My mother married an intellectual… and he turned into a polygamist. Not that polygamists are not good, but the way it happened to my family,” she said.

As of the time of this report, neither members of the Olunloyo family nor representatives of the late governor have publicly responded to her allegations.
