“I Left Office With the Same Assets I Had Before Presidency” – Buhari

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has urged Nigerian leaders to place the welfare of citizens above personal interests, emphasizing a need for a people-centered approach to governance. Hosting governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at his Kaduna residence during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, Buhari declared that he left office with the same physical assets he possessed before becoming president, reinforcing his stance on integrity and accountability.

He described leadership as both a challenge and an opportunity, urging current officeholders to find a balance that drives national development. Buhari praised the ongoing efforts of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) and expressed optimism about the country’s progress under their stewardship.

He also thanked the administration of President Bola Tinubu for renovating his home, noting that while the building looks the same from the outside, significant improvements were made within. Buhari expressed gratitude for the governors’ visit, acknowledging that while he had worked closely with some of them, others were new faces.

Speaking on behalf of the visiting governors, Imo State Governor and PGF Chairman, Hope Uzodinma, said the delegation came to extend Eid greetings and express appreciation for Buhari’s immense contributions to Nigerian democracy and the APC. He commended Buhari’s role in establishing the party and reaffirming loyalty to it, calling the former president a stabilizing figure within the political movement.

Uzodinma praised Buhari’s leadership legacy, citing successes in security, economic recovery, infrastructure, and anti-corruption. He noted key initiatives such as the Conditional Cash Transfer, School Feeding Program, and the Anchor Borrowers Scheme, which improved food security and empowered local producers.

Highlighting Buhari’s peaceful handover of power and recent public endorsement of President Tinubu, Uzodinma described the former president as a national icon whose guidance remains vital for the future of progressive politics in Nigeria.
