German Country Director Appeals to President Tinubu for Nnamdi Kanu’s Release

The Country Director and Principal Representative of the German Initiative for Knowledge Transfer in Nigeria, Hon. Obinna Ichita, has publicly appealed to President Bola Tinubu to facilitate the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

In an interview on Saturday, Ichita, who previously served as the 2023 Deputy Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and represented the Aba South State Constituency, emphasized that releasing Kanu aligns with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the pursuit of justice.

Ichita expressed his admiration for President Tinubu’s first-year accomplishments, particularly in enhancing security and promoting transparency in governance. “I congratulate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the successful celebration of his first anniversary as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.

He also called on Nigerians to ponder the new national anthem’s lyrics, highlighting the importance of building a peaceful and prosperous nation where no one is oppressed. “As Nigeria effects a change in her National Anthem, I urge the government and people of Nigeria to reflect on the wording of the national hymn to build a peaceful and prosperous homeland, where no one is oppressed,” Ichita stated.

Ichita further urged President Tinubu to consider initiating a national dialogue aimed at fostering genuine reconciliation, national unity, economic stability, and security. “In the spirit of the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the interest of justice, I appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and direct the commencement of processes for the release of all agitators, including Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, and to also initiate a program that will culminate in a national dialogue for genuine reconciliation of differences to foster national unity, economic stability, and national security,” he concluded.

This plea comes amid ongoing legal and political debates concerning Nnamdi Kanu’s detention and trial, highlighting the complex dynamics of justice and governance in Nigeria.
