FULL LIST: US to Review Green Cards from 19 Countries of Concern After Washington Shooting

The U.S. administration said Thursday it will conduct a sweeping review of all Green Cards held by permanent residents from Afghanistan and 18 other designated “countries of concern,” following the shooting of National Guard personnel in Washington, D.C.

Authorities identified the suspect as a 29-year-old Afghan national who had previously worked with American forces in Afghanistan. He arrived in the United States under asylum earlier this year, not through permanent residency, according to AfghanEvac, a group supporting Afghans resettled after the 2021 Taliban takeover.

Joseph Edlow, director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, announced on X that he had ordered a “full-scale, rigorous reexamination” of every Green Card issued to individuals from the listed countries.

The move builds on a June executive order from President Donald Trump that classified 19 nations as “of Identified Concern.” The measure barred most nationals from 12 of those countries from entering the United States. They include Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Congo-Brazzaville, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.

Seven additional countries—Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela—are subject to a partial travel ban, though some temporary work visas remain permitted.

The policy review comes amid heightened security discussions across the country following recent incidents and growing concerns over immigration vetting procedures.
