Frustrated Man Kills Father with Axe, Blames Him for His Erectile Dysfunction
A 28-year-old Kadoma man has been arrested after allegedly killing his father with an axe, accusing him of witchcraft and blaming him for his erectile dysfunction.
The brutal incident occurred on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at Justright Plot in the Showground area of Kadoma, Zimbabwe. Police identified the suspect as Talent Chirongoma, who is said to have fatally attacked his 86-year-old father, Tinos Chirongoma.
According to reports, Talent had been drinking beer with his friend, Tichawona Ndlovu, at Mugwachari Shopping Centre before heading to his father’s homestead. On arrival, they found Tinos in the company of Apostolic Church (Mwazha) members. Talent accused the worshippers of “talking to a witch,” forcing them to flee.
Witnesses said Tichawona attempted to restrain Talent, but the suspect struck him with a wooden log. He then turned on his father, first beating him with logs before repeatedly striking him with an axe on the head and legs. Tinos died instantly, as his ailing wife reportedly watched in shock.
Neighbours told investigators that Talent had for years accused his father of using witchcraft to cause his erectile dysfunction, which he believed led to the collapse of three marriages. He also allegedly blamed his father for his mother’s prolonged illness. Sources said some faith healers had reinforced these beliefs, deepening his resentment.
The matter was reported to Eiffel Flats Police Station by Tinashe Magura, leading to Talent’s arrest. Police confirmed the case, saying investigations are ongoing.
Authorities have described the killing as a chilling reminder of how family disputes, alcohol abuse, and unverified spiritual claims can fuel violence. Investigators are also examining the role of local faith healers and the suspect’s psychological state in the tragedy.
