Fire Razes Two-Storey Building on Iweka Road, Anambra
A fire engulfed a commercial two-storey building on Iweka Road, near Ochanja Main Market in Onitsha South Local Government Area of Anambra State, on Tuesday evening.
The Anambra Fire Service confirmed the incident, with Fire Chief Chukwudi Chiketa stating that his team received a distress call at approximately 9:35 p.m. and immediately responded. Firefighters battled the blaze for several hours and withdrew from the scene around 3:05 a.m. on Wednesday.
While the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, Chiketa reported that four shops within the building were affected. The shops contained furniture materials, including leather and foam, but firefighters managed to prevent the flames from spreading to other parts of the building.
Residents and traders were seen at the scene trying to salvage what remained of their goods. Authorities have yet to provide an estimate of the losses incurred.
