Final Warning: FG Extends Civil Servants’ Payroll Verification Deadline to February 17

The Federal Government has set a February 17, 2025, deadline for civil servants to complete their identity verification as part of efforts to eliminate ghost workers from the payroll. The directive, issued by the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF), was detailed in a memo obtained by SK Blog on Saturday.

Civil servants must verify their identities on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) portal, with failure to comply potentially leading to salary suspension and other penalties. To complete the process, employees are required to provide their Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN), IPPIS number, and salary account details.

The memo confirmed an extension of the verification deadline, stating, “Following the Treasury Circular with Ref. No. TRY/A6&B6/2024-OAGF/CAD/026/Vol. V/910 dated 27th June 2024 and a subsequent extension on August 16, 2024, the Accountant-General of the Federation has approved an additional one-week extension for the OAF-IPPIS Payroll Validation Portal, from February 10 to February 17, 2025.”

It further emphasized that employees must complete the process by 12 midnight on February 17, warning that those who fail to comply “may suffer some consequences, which may include suspension from the payroll.” Accounting officers and finance directors across ministries, departments, and agencies have been urged to ensure full compliance.

This development follows President Bola Tinubu’s 2024 directive to recover salaries paid to civil servants who had relocated abroad while still drawing federal wages. The President also called for sanctions against supervisors and department heads who facilitated such fraud.
