“El-Rufai’s Government Withdrew N1.4 Trillion from State Account” – Kaduna Assembly
The Kaduna State House of Assembly has launched an investigation into the financial activities of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s administration, uncovering significant withdrawals amounting to N1.4 trillion.
Henry Marah Zachariah, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, revealed on Wednesday that the Assembly had set up a 13-member committee to examine financial dealings, loans, grants, and project implementations during El-Rufai’s tenure from 2015 to 2023.
Honourable Mugu Yusuf, Chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts and Deputy Minority Whip, initiated the motion. He emphasized the necessity for public transparency and accountability, urging the committee to summon former officials and contractors to account for the expenditure of the received loans and grants.
In response, former Governor El-Rufai dismissed the Assembly’s report, labeling it a “politically motivated hatchet job” and asserting that he governed with integrity.
However, during an interview on Channels TV, Zachariah disclosed that N423 billion was withdrawn from the state account without any corresponding activities or projects. Additionally, he reported that the Commissioner for Finance and the Accountant General had withdrawn N30 billion, contributing to the total of N1.4 trillion extracted from the state’s funds.
