El-Rufai Reacts to Police Summons
Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has condemned the Kaduna State Police Command after receiving a summons linked to a disrupted political meeting of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The Command had earlier stopped the ADC from holding a scheduled meeting in Kaduna. It later invited El-Rufai and seven members of the party for questioning over alleged criminal conspiracy, incitement of public disturbance, mischief, and causing grievous harm. The police further directed the ADC Chairman in the state to present the former governor and others at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on September 8.
Addressing a press conference at his private residence in Kaduna, El-Rufai described the move as unconstitutional and a “dangerous descent into lawlessness.”
“The Commissioner knows what he is doing violates the Constitution,” El-Rufai said. “He waved a piece of paper claiming it was a court order, but it was never served. Even if such an order exists, it must be legally delivered before it can take effect. That has not happened.”
The former governor vowed to challenge the action in court, insisting that neither he nor the ADC members had committed any offence.
“We want to see that injunction, we want to know the grounds, and we will contest them. This is not the end—further steps will follow,” he stated.
The Kaduna Police Command is yet to issue a detailed response to El-Rufai’s remarks.
