“El-Rufai and Amaechi Are Architects of Banditry and Hunger” – Shehu Sani

Senator Shehu Sani has accused former governors Nasir El-Rufai and Rotimi Amaechi of being key contributors to the insecurity and economic hardship facing Nigeria, stating they lack the moral authority to criticise President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In a scathing statement, the former Kaduna Central lawmaker described both men as architects of the banditry, poverty, and hunger that they now publicly decry.

“El-Rufai and Amaechi should bow their heads in shame. They are the architects of the banditry, poverty, and hunger they now pretend to lament,” Sani said. “During their time in office, they failed to solve these problems. Now that they’ve been sidelined in the current government, they’re crying foul.”

Sani criticised their recent comments on Tinubu’s economic policies as insincere, accusing them of hypocrisy and political selfishness. While acknowledging the importance of holding government accountable, he warned that doing so out of personal disappointment rather than genuine concern only undermines national unity.

He also condemned other former officials from the Buhari administration who, after being left out of Tinubu’s cabinet, are allegedly working to undermine the current leadership. According to Sani, these individuals had ample opportunity during their eight years in power to make meaningful changes, particularly in the North, but left the region in worse condition.

Highlighting improvements in security under the current administration, Sani pointed to areas like the Birnin Gwari road and Southern Kaduna, which he described as relatively peaceful due to better military leadership. He acknowledged that some states, including Katsina and Zamfara, still face serious security threats but maintained that the overall situation has improved.

Sani urged President Tinubu to intensify his efforts in the North and remain open to constructive criticism that is not rooted in political bitterness.
