EFCC Probes N2.5bn Fraud Allegations Against Senator Kwankwaso

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has initiated an investigation into allegations of misappropriation of New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) campaign funds amounting to N2.5 billion during the 2023 elections. The probe focuses on Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and his National Working Committee’s failure to pay party agents who worked during the presidential and governorship elections.

Reliable sources revealed that the EFCC has summoned the party’s National Secretary, Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday, to provide evidence supporting the fraud allegations against Senator Kwankwaso and his Private Secretary, Mrs. Folashade Aliu. Mrs. Aliu is accused of being a key figure in the alleged diversion of party funds into secret accounts for campaign donations.

The investigation also implicates other key figures, including Prof. Rufai Alkali, Abba Kawu, and Dipo Olayokun, who are signatories to the NNPP’s bank account. There are specific concerns about Olayokun’s sudden acquisition of properties in prime areas of Abuja within his two-year tenure as a signatory.

Comrade Oginni confirmed to Vanguard that he was invited to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja to provide statements regarding the petition he filed on behalf of the NNPP. He expressed satisfaction with the professionalism of the EFCC officers and emphasized that he faced no harassment or intimidation during the process.

“Indeed, I was invited by the EFCC. I complied and was impressed with the professionalism exhibited by their officers. I provided all necessary clarifications regarding the petition I signed, which alleges a N2.5 billion fraud involving Senator Kwankwaso and his associates,” Oginni stated.
