Driver K1lls Lagos Realtor Over Parking Space
A parking dispute at Royal Pine Estate on Orchid Road, Lekki, has ended in tragedy after a driver allegedly knocked down and killed 36-year-old realtor Yinka Agboola.
Residents said the incident happened on Monday evening after estate members asked the driver to move his vehicle, which was reportedly blocking the road. Although an alternative parking space was offered, witnesses claim the driver reacted angrily and threatened a resident, escalating the situation into a scuffle.
According to accounts shared on X, Agboola stepped in to calm the confrontation but was caught in the chaos when the suspect returned to his vehicle. CCTV footage circulating online shows a white Mercedes-Benz reversing aggressively toward a group of people. Another clip captures the moment Agboola was struck as the car sped forward.
Witnesses said Agboola tried to restrain the driver, clinging to the steering wheel, before the suspect accelerated, flung him onto a pavement, and left him unconscious. He was rushed to the ICU of an undisclosed hospital.
Residents and online volunteers mobilised funds for his treatment, but a follow-up post on Wednesday confirmed Agboola had died from his injuries early that morning.
His sister, Agboola Oluwadamilola, told reporters the family had filed a statement at the Ajah police station. She added that the suspect’s whereabouts remain unknown.
The viral footage has intensified public pressure on authorities to arrest the driver. Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi requested enquiries be sent via text but had not provided an update at the time of reporting.
The tragedy has revived conversations about frequent conflicts over parking in Lagos estates. In a similar case in 2023, police arrested a resident of Badore’s First Unity Estate for fatally stabbing his neighbour during a parking-related dispute.
