Defence Headquarters Shares Post Praising Military Service After Wike’s Clash with Soldiers
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has drawn public attention with a social media post emphasizing that “it is an honor to serve in the Nigerian Military.” The message was shared only hours after an altercation between soldiers and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in Abuja.
According to reports, Wike visited a property in the Gaduwa district to halt an ongoing building project he claimed was being developed without proper documentation. The land is reportedly linked to a former Chief of Naval Staff. During the visit, Wike ordered construction workers to stop work, but military officers on-site, said to be acting on “orders from above,” prevented his team from enforcing the directive.
The situation quickly escalated, with a heated exchange between the minister and one of the officers. A visibly angry Wike told the soldier to “shut up,” calling him a fool. The officer reportedly replied, “I am not a fool, and I will not shut up. I am acting on orders.”
Shortly after the incident made headlines, the Defence Headquarters shared its post highlighting pride and honor in military service — a move that many observers believe was a subtle response to the confrontation.
