Decomposed Body Found in Car Outside National Assembly Complex in Abuja

A decomposed body was discovered inside a parked vehicle outside the annex gate of the National Assembly Complex in Abuja on Sunday, September 7, raising serious security and health concerns within one of Nigeria’s most heavily guarded institutions.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, who cited multiple sources, the deceased was identified as **55-year-old Gaddafi Iwar**, a labourer reportedly engaged at a construction site within the National Assembly premises before his death.

The body was found in a **red Peugeot 406 with registration number BWR-577 BF** around 9:00 a.m. Witnesses said the car had been left unattended at the same location for several days before the grim discovery.

Security sources confirmed that the remains were initially moved to the National Assembly Clinic for examination and later transferred to Asokoro General Hospital, where they were rejected due to the advanced state of decomposition. Eventually, members of the Tiv community and local youth leaders arranged for the body to be buried in Gbawu Village, on the border of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) and Kuje, to avert a public health risk.

The development has triggered widespread unease, with many questioning how a decomposing body inside a parked vehicle could go unnoticed for so long in a zone subject to rigorous security checks.

Efforts to obtain an official response have so far been unsuccessful. Calls to Senator Yemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Publicity, went unanswered, while text messages remained unreplied as of press time. Similarly, repeated attempts to reach FCT Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh were unsuccessful.

Authorities are yet to issue a formal statement on the incident.
