Datti Baba-Ahmed Reveals Only Condition for Considering 2027 Presidential Bid
Former Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has revealed the sole condition under which he may consider contesting the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s *Prime Time* programme, Baba-Ahmed said he would only consider running if Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, and another respected political figure from the South choose not to contest.
He emphasized that his interest in the presidency is not driven by personal ambition but by a desire to address Nigeria’s pressing issues. “I religiously supported Peter Obi and I would do so again in 2027, unless certain two people that I have tremendous respect for decide not to take it, and God Almighty in His infinite mercies keeps dropping it for me,” he said.
Baba-Ahmed reaffirmed his loyalty to Obi, noting that if Obi decides to run again, he will fully support him. “Peter will contest for sure because he’s in the game, he contested before, I’ll support him,” he added.
He further clarified that his main ambition is to contribute to national development. “I’m not ambitious. My key ambition is to stop the killings, stop the stealing, stop the slide,” he said.
Baba-Ahmed was Peter Obi’s running mate in the 2023 presidential election, where the Labour Party placed third, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
