Court Remands Businessman for Allegedly Impregnating Housewife, Forcing Abortion
The Chief Magistrate Court I in Yola, Adamawa State, has ordered the remand of a businessman, Mamuda Duma, over allegations that he impregnated a housewife and facilitated the abortion of her three-month pregnancy. The case was brought before the court after the woman’s husband, Ahmadu Lawal of Yola town in Yola South Local Government Area, lodged a complaint against Duma, who resides in Wurojabbe, Yola North.
Lawal told the court that he discovered the affair last year and had on three occasions called the defendant to warn him to end the relationship with his wife. He alleged that despite these warnings, Duma continued the relationship and later influenced his wife to terminate the pregnancy. Lawal explained that after initially reporting the matter to the police headquarters in Yola, the defendant and some of his friends pleaded with him to drop the case with a promise to end the affair. According to him, he agreed, but the defendant still went on with the relationship.
When the charges were read in court, Duma denied the allegations. Chief Magistrate Muhammed Njidda subsequently ordered that he be remanded in prison custody pending trial. The case has been adjourned to September 1, 2025, for hearing.
