Chidimma Adetshina Makes History as First Runner-Up at Miss Universe 2024
Nigeria’s Chidimma Adetshina has been crowned the first runner-up at the 73rd Miss Universe pageant, held at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico. Miss Denmark, Victoria Kjaer Theilvig, claimed the coveted title, succeeding Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua, the Miss Universe 2023 winner. The competition, which showcased the elegance, intelligence, and talents of 126 contestants from across the globe, saw Adetshina stand out among a strong field, including 18 other African representatives from countries like Angola, Egypt, and South Africa.
Chidimma Adetshina’s journey to this remarkable feat has been nothing short of inspiring. After advancing to the top 30 and later to the top five, she secured her place in the final two alongside Theilvig. This achievement marks a significant milestone for Nigeria in the global beauty scene. Earlier this year, Adetshina made headlines when she withdrew from the Miss South Africa 2024 competition after reaching its final stage. The decision came amidst debates over her eligibility, with some South Africans questioning her connection to the country. However, she later returned to the spotlight by winning the Miss Universe Nigeria title, representing Taraba State.
