Chagoury: “GCON Is Not Enough; Appoint Him VP, Rename Abuja After Him” – Mahdi Shehu
Public analyst Mahdi Shehu has criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent decision to confer the Grand Commander of the Order of Niger (GCON) on businessman Gilbert Chagoury.
In a post on X, Shehu mockingly suggested that Chagoury should replace Vice President Kashim Shettima and that Abuja should be renamed after him.
“Beyond the GCON award, Tinubu should appoint Chagoury as vice president, drop Kashim Shettima, rename Abuja as Chagoury enclave, and change the name of Nigeria to Lebanon,” Shehu wrote.
The GCON conferment, publicly acknowledged on Monday after billionaire Femi Otedola congratulated Chagoury, has generated significant controversy. Former APC spokespersons have also condemned the move, with one commenting, “Nigeria has become a place where corruption is rewarded.”
