Nasiru Gawuna, the 2023 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, is reportedly in discussions with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over the party’s governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 election.

Sources familiar with the matter confirmed that talks are ongoing but said no agreement has been reached.

According to one source, representatives of the former deputy governor have approached the ADC, and discussions are still underway.

Musa Ungogo, chairman of the ADC in Kano State, confirmed the development but declined to provide details.

“The story is true, but I cannot say much about it for now,” he said.

Efforts to reach Abubakar Musa, Gawuna’s media aide, were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.

Gawuna resigned in March as chairman of the board of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN). His media team said the decision was aimed at allowing him to focus on preparations for the 2027 Kano governorship race.

He subsequently joined the ADC and received his membership card in Gawuna Ward, Nasarawa Local Government Area.

However, he later moved to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), where he aligned with Rabiu Kwankwaso, the party’s vice-presidential candidate, alongside members of the Kwankwasiyya movement.

Reports indicate that Gawuna formally joined the NDC in May and was later named the party’s candidate for the Kano Central Senatorial District in the next general election.

The latest discussions with the ADC suggest that his political future remains fluid as parties continue to position themselves ahead of the 2027 polls.
