A 2027 presidential aspirant under the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), Abisayo Busari-Akinnadeju, has resigned her membership of the party and requested a refund of the nomination fee she paid to contest its presidential ticket.
In a resignation letter addressed to the national chairman, she said her decision followed concerns over the party’s handling of its presidential selection process, which she described as lacking a competitive primary.
She criticised the leadership’s move toward a consensus arrangement, arguing that it undermined internal party rules and weakened the credibility of the process.
Alongside her resignation, she asked the party to confirm receipt of her exit, return her nomination fee, and release any personal documents or materials held by the party.
“I do not resign in defeat. I resigned because I am not permitted a fair contest,” she wrote, adding that she would not associate with a process she considers inconsistent with established guidelines.
She also said she remained committed to her political ambition and the “Dare Nigeria” agenda, insisting that her resolve to pursue the presidency had not changed despite leaving the party.
According to her, the experience reinforced her belief that credible leadership requires internal democracy, adding that a party unable to conduct a fair primary cannot convincingly promise fairness in governance.
The DLA aspirant hails from Akungba Akoko in Akoko South-West LGA.
