Governor of Bauchi State Bala Mohammed has denied reports suggesting he is planning to leave the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) to become the running mate of former President Goodluck Jonathan under a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2027 elections.

The speculation followed an online claim by African Democratic Congress figure Nuhu Sada, who suggested on X that the Bauchi governor was being considered for the vice-presidential slot on Jonathan’s purported ticket.

Jonathan had earlier been announced as the presidential candidate of a PDP faction led by Kabiru Turaki during a convention held in Abuja. His nomination was confirmed in his absence, with his certificate of return received by House of Representatives member Fred Agbedi.

Responding to the claims, Mohammed rejected any suggestion that he was preparing a political switch or a new alliance. In a statement shared via his X account, he said:

“Any reports suggesting a different political course should be disregarded as speculative and inaccurate.”

He further clarified that his political direction remains unchanged, stressing his current ambition within APM:

“My focus remains firmly on contesting for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM). Any reports suggesting a different political arrangement should be disregarded.”

Mohammed recently left the PDP and joined APM following internal disputes within the opposition party, a move that has continued to generate political reactions and speculation about his future role ahead of the 2027 elections.
