The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has completed a key stage of its presidential screening process ahead of the 2027 general election, with all three major aspirants appearing before its panel in Abuja.

Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen were all vetted by the party’s screening committee, which conducted the exercise behind closed doors.

Atiku presented an economic recovery plan and a security framework centred on fiscal discipline, private sector expansion, and job creation. His camp later described the session as an opportunity to outline policy direction rather than a procedural appearance.

Amaechi also appeared before the panel and was screened as part of the nomination process. Details of his presentation were not made public, consistent with the committee’s closed-door format.

Hayatu-Deen, who completed his screening earlier, said he was confident in the integrity of the process and indicated readiness for whatever method the party adopts in selecting its candidate.

The ADC is expected to move next into consultations that will determine whether it adopts a consensus arrangement or proceeds to direct primaries to select its presidential candidate for the 2027 race in Nigeria.
