APC Adopts Indirect Mode for Anambra Governorship Primary
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has approved the indirect primary method for selecting its candidate in the upcoming Anambra State governorship election. The primary is scheduled for April 5, 2025.
The decision was announced by the party’s National Secretary, Surajudeen Ajibola, following an NWC meeting in Abuja on Thursday. He also confirmed that a stakeholder meeting, involving the State Working Committee (SWC), state caucus members, and governorship aspirants, will be held in Abuja to ensure inclusivity in the process.
However, this move has already sparked controversy within the Anambra State chapter of the APC. The state leadership had previously opposed the use of indirect primaries, arguing that it could lead to corruption and manipulation. In a press statement released on Tuesday, the chapter warned that any attempt to impose the method on the party could create further internal divisions.
