Another Ex-Super Eagles Player Dies
Former Super Eagles winger Allen Okwuchukwu Waobikeze has died, just days after the passing of legendary Nigerian goalkeeper and team captain Peter Rufai. Known affectionately as ‘Babaoo’ by fans and teammates, Waobikeze was celebrated for his powerful left foot and dazzling ball control.
Though he earned limited caps for Nigeria due to fierce competition within the squad, Waobikeze made a lasting impression in domestic football. He played for top Nigerian clubs including Sharks FC of Port Harcourt, BCC Lions of Gboko, and Iwuanyanwu Nationale (now Heartland FC), where his flair and skill won him a loyal following.
His death was confirmed on Monday by his brother, Eli Waobikeze, who shared the news via a heartfelt Facebook post. “On behalf of the Waobikeze family, I would like to announce the peaceful passing to eternal glory of my brother Allen Okwuchukwu Waobikeze. He transitioned at about 7:34 pm CST,” the statement read. “We appreciate everyone who prayed, called, and visited my brother… Please keep our family in your prayers at this time as we plan to send forth our beloved brother. God bless you all.”
Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family in the coming days.
