Anambra Government Unveils Plans for Second Airport in Ndikelionwu

The Anambra State Government has announced plans to construct a second airport in Ndikelionwu, Orumba North Local Government Area. The project, according to officials, is expected to anchor a larger aerotropolis and industrial park that will open new frontiers for economic growth in the state.

During a tour of the proposed site, the Managing Director of Chinua Achebe International Cargo Airport, Engr. Martins Emeka Nwafor, said the visit was aimed at identifying a suitable and flyable location for the development. Nwafor, who also chairs the newly established Airport and Aerotropolis Committee, described the initiative as a transformative step that would combine aviation infrastructure with commercial, residential, and logistics facilities to create an airport-driven city.

He stressed that having multiple airports would accelerate industrialisation, expand business opportunities, and attract significant investments into the state.

Community leaders in Ndikelionwu welcomed the project, expressing gratitude to the government for selecting their town. Former President-General of the Ndikelionwu Welfare Association, Hon Fabian Nwosu, and the Vice President, Hon Ifesinachi Chukwurah Onwurah, assured the state of maximum cooperation, security, and support to ensure smooth execution and timely completion.

The delegation to the site included the MD/CEO of Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company Limited, Prof Charles O. Ofoegbu; Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security, Retired Air Vice Marshal Ben Chiobi; architect and Sliding Towers founder, Mr Chukwudi Ezenwa; community chiefs and elders, alongside geologists and geophysicists who carried out geomapping of the location.
