“Alleged plan to appoint notorious judge as INEC chairman will cause civil war” – Buba Galadima

Buba Galadima, a chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has warned that Nigeria risks sliding into civil unrest if the federal government proceeds with an alleged plan to appoint a retired Court of Appeal judge as chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Speaking on Arise Television’s *Prime Time* on Monday, Galadima said rumours were circulating that the government was considering a judge he described as “notorious” for the top electoral role. He stressed that such an appointment would be a dangerous move.

“Come November, there are rumours all over the place that this government is nominating a just retired Court of Appeal judge who is known for notoriety to be the chairman of INEC. I wish it is not true. Because if that man becomes the chairman of INEC, be rest assured that this government is inviting a civil war in this country,” Galadima declared.

He further alleged that the current administration had little regard for the rule of law and that INEC, under its present leadership, had already been compromised in favour of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). According to him, decisions made by the commission suggest it has been tilted to serve APC’s interests.

“The INEC chairman has already rigged the election for APC. They brought somebody that is the secretary of the party that went to court for APC as acting national chairman, and he was rewarded with chairman of INEC,” he claimed.

Galadima argued that such developments could undermine the credibility of Nigeria’s elections and destabilise the country if unchecked. He warned that appointing the retired judge would completely erode faith in the democratic process.

“If this man is appointed INEC chairman, then forget about elections in Nigeria. Because there would be no elections in this country, and it will create chaos,” he cautioned.

He urged citizens to remain vigilant and insisted that individuals with questionable track records must not be entrusted with overseeing Nigeria’s electoral process.
