46 Dead as Passenger Plane Crashes

A tragic plane crash in Russia’s remote Amur region has left all 46 people on board dead after an Angara Airlines An-24 aircraft went down while approaching the town of Tynda near the Chinese border. The aircraft reportedly vanished from radar after initiating a go-around and failed to report at a designated checkpoint. Hours later, rescue teams discovered the burning fuselage and wreckage strewn across a mountainside approximately 16 kilometers from Tynda.

No distress signals were received before contact was lost, according to emergency services. Initial reports from Amur Governor Vasily Orlov indicated that 43 passengers, including five children, and six crew members were on board. However, authorities later clarified that the total number included 40 passengers, two of whom were children, and six crew.

Emergency crews faced significant challenges accessing the site, with thick forests and swampy terrain hindering efforts. Investigators are currently examining the possibility of crew error during a low-visibility landing as a likely cause, though the exact reason for the crash has not been confirmed. Russia’s vast and often harsh hinterland, especially in the far east, is known for extreme weather conditions that can complicate aviation.

The crash site was located following an aerial search, and officials confirmed that no one survived. Federal registry data revealed that Angara Airlines had undergone its most recent inspection earlier this month. A criminal investigation into the incident has now been launched.
