2027: ADC Will Unseat APC If….., – Aregbesola
The Interim National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, has predicted that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will be ousted in the 2027 general elections—if opposition parties can unite under a single platform. Aregbesola made the declaration during a stakeholders’ meeting with ADC members in Akure, the Ondo State capital, where he emphasized the urgent need for a broad coalition to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Aregbesola called on political actors to put aside personal ambitions and rally behind a unified front, stressing that unity across presidential, National Assembly, and state contests will be the key to electoral success. He revealed that the ADC-led movement is gaining momentum with support from prominent opposition leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s Peter Obi, both of whom, he said, are backing efforts to reposition Nigeria.
The former governor warned members to brace for misinformation campaigns from the ruling APC, which he alleged will attempt to destabilize the growing movement through propaganda. He urged ADC loyalists to remain focused and resist distractions from both internal and external forces.
Also speaking at the gathering, Hon. Gbenga Edema, a former NNPP governorship candidate in Ondo State, accused the APC of manipulating narratives to discredit the coalition. He dismissed pending court cases as political noise with no relevance to the movement’s goals and praised Aregbesola for offering clarity on both national and internal issues.
Hon. Akin Akinbobola, a former APC chieftain and aide to ex-Governor Olusegun Mimiko, criticized the current state of governance, citing widespread insecurity, hunger, and crumbling infrastructure. He described the ADC as a credible platform for progressive change and called on Nigerians to support the coalition in its mission to rebuild the country.
Akinbobola added that over ten political parties have joined the ADC-led alliance, with momentum continuing to build. He likened the growing coalition to a political tsunami, stressing the importance of managing its scale to ensure inclusivity.
The Akure meeting underscored renewed opposition momentum under the ADC umbrella, as frustrations mount nationwide over economic hardship and governance failures. The party is positioning itself as the nucleus of a unified front aiming to challenge the APC’s hold on power in the upcoming 2027 elections.
