The State Chairman of the Lagos State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party PDP Engr Adedeji Doherty has reiterated that the peace moves being presently embarked upon within the party is recording very huge success and the party presently enjoys about 80% peace situation in its fold.
Engr Doherty pointed out that the remaining 20% represent those that are loyal to leaders rather than to the party structure, he however promised that with the present moves and strategies being put in place, all that would change soon.
He further reiterated that misunderstandings and disagreements are all part of good Democratic process.
Engr Doherty made all these known while speaking to Abdullateef Aliyu of the Daily Trust.
Aliyu had asked that “As the State Chairman, what do you think are the factors responsible for the internal crisis in the party and what are you doing to unite and strengthen the party?”
In his response, Engr Doherty said “misunderstandings and disagreements here and there are part of a Democratic process and not an abnormality.”
He said “The reason for the continuous conflict escalation in the party has been the non respectability of previous managers of the party to simple adherence to the rules and regulations of the party’s constitution.”
“The Previous managers never created a strict and non bias conflict resolution structure.”
He pointed out that, a conflict resolution structure has been put in place and this has been evident in the decrease in crises within the party lately.
Engr Doherty stated that plans are in the pipeline, to introduce a collegiate style of leadership within the party.
This he strongly believes would enhance long standing peaceful situations within the PDP family in the state from the grassroot levels.
He further stated that the party is not oblivious of the fact that there are individuals who are Fifth columnist within the party, he however strongly warned that the party has no space for such persons or group of persons.
When asked the question on if he would be seeking another 4 years as Chairman of Lagos State PDP.
Engr Doherty said, his decision would be based on Consultations presently going on at the highest level of the party coupled with personal consultations with his family and ultimately on the direction of God Almighty.
He however said, a decision would definitely be made very soon.
On a general note as it concerns elections in the country and particularly the forthcoming Local Government Council Elections, the Chairman pointed out that, the non independence and biased attitude of INEC and LASIEC that are supposed to be neutral bodies, money sharing and vote buying stimulated by the economic situation and abject poverty, amongst others have all also played very detrimental roles in the political landscape in Lagos State and in Nigeria at large.
