A concerned Lagosian simply identified as O.O. Samuel and the convener of Preacher’s Household has called on the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu to urgency look into the dilapidated state of the Bus Rapid Transit System in the state.
He stated that the buses are now more or less glorified “molue buses” of old.
In a letter addressed to the State Governor, Samuel called the attention of the Governor saying that “There is barely any difference between the BRT and any other commercial mass transit vehicle in Lagos.”
He further said “I can say categorically that save for the special route or marked out space on the road, the BRT has lost its savour.”
The full text of the letter reads:
Dear Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu,
Your Excellency,
I bring you greetings with the hope that this meets you well.
I write to call your attention to the dilapidated state of almost all, if not all, the BRT buses in Lagos at the moment. As one who uses the bus regularly, I can say categorically that save for the special route or marked out space on the road, the BRT has lost its savour. What is left now is a MESS!
From commuters having to shout “owa o” and “onbo le o” when approaching their bus stops because the bells are no longer working, to having the glasses opened because the ACs aren’t working anymore, to excess and suffocating “standing”, to the occasional, yet obnoxious, refusal of the check-out machine to work when alighting, making them lose the extra amount deducted from the card at check-in.
There is barely any difference between the BRT and any other commercial mass transit vehicle in Lagos as we speak.
I’ll be glad to have you look into this and lets return the BRT to its special place and status it was known for.
I’m OO. Samuel, sir.
I’m a concerned Lagosian.
