The Southern Kaduna community has raised concerns about marginalization in state and federal appointments, urging that the upcoming ministerial appointment from Kaduna State should come from their zone.
At a press conference in Kaduna, the Southern Kaduna Renewed Hope Movement of Nigeria highlighted an eight-year period of political and religious marginalization within the region, particularly since the rise of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Yusuf Kanhu, National Coordinator of the Movement, expressed disappointment in the divergence from the values of unity and progress that Kaduna State previously embodied. He pointed out that recent political decisions led to imbalanced representation, with a significant disparity in appointments under the previous administration of Mallam Nasir Elrufai.
The introduction of a Muslim-Muslim ticket intensified this division, according to the movement, relegating Christians and Muslims of Southern Kaduna to deputy roles. Recent social media videos raised concerns about the motivations behind these decisions.
The Southern Kaduna Renewed Hope Movement called on Governor Uba Sani to ensure fairness for both Christian and Muslim communities. If a Christian ministerial appointment is not possible, they proposed Dr. Abdulmalik Durunguwa as a suitable candidate.
The movement emphasized their aim for unity and progress through equal representation, fair resource distribution, and inclusive governance. They urged the Kaduna State Government and the Federal Government to address their grievances and join them in their pursuit of justice, equality, and progress.
