A Police Sergeant, identified as Okema Azuquo has been reported to have gone beserk and killed his colleague with a cutlass, he also injured another person, identified as Ayodele Eyitayo.
The deceased, Inspector Ilesanmi Francis Adekunle was attached to the Special Protection Unit (SPU), Ikeja.
Adekunle, was said to have been trying to prevent Azuquo from attacking co-tenants when he met his death.
Both the deceased and the suspect, were said to be residing in the same building at Oke-Odo, Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The incident had earlier been reported at the Oke-Odo, Ile-Epo Police Station, but has since been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Panto Street, Yaba on the orders of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, who confirmed the incident, said “The state Police yesterday paid tribute to the Inspector, who sustained deep cuts and later died, while trying to prevent an unruly colleague from killing co-tenants.”
The Homicide Section of the SCIID Panti has taken over the investigation and the suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigation and disciplinary proceedings are concluded.
