Chairman of the Lagos state chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya has said that the union will deal with commercial bus drivers in the state who attempt to take advantage of the recent ban on commercial motorcycles and tricycles in the state to hike fares.
Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo gave the warning in a statement on Monday. He directed branch chairmen of the Union to monitor the fares to ensure commercial bus drivers did not inflict more hardship on commuters.
“The union is also working assiduously with investors to inject more buses and increase the number of commercial vehicles in the metropolis to ease the hardship faced as a result of the ban.
“We advise both the commercial drivers and Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN) and Motorcycle Operators Association of Lagos (MOALS) to be patient and cooperate with Lagos State Traffic Management Authority officials, obey traffic law.
“It’s an offence to drive on BRT lanes or drive against traffic. Obey the traffic laws and regulations, comport yourself orderly,” Akinsanya said.
