The Divine Mandate Campaign Organization wishes to notify the international community, civil rights groups, and the general public, of a grand plot by security agents, allegedly acting the script of the APC-led federal government, to abduct the resident electoral commissioner in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Mike Igini.
This latest draconian move, follows their failure to arm twist the electoral commission and the judiciary, to transfer Mr Igini out of the state, and his seeming uncompromising stance, and refusal to yield to pressure and dance to their tune. From all indications, the evil plot to forcefully use the security agents and forcefully abduct Mr Igini, will enable him to pave the way for their devilish plan to announce already prepared results sheets in favour of the APC.
It is even more worrisome that all the APC electoral thugs, recently imported into the state from Edo State to cause mayhem have been released and allegedly escorted to the Governorship Candidate of APC, Mr Nsima Ekere by the police, despite all the overwhelming evidences against them.
The question on the lips of many Akwa Ibom people and even those outside the state has been: Why should the police decide to hurriedly exonerate and release thugs, caught in highly implicating circumstance in a state, simply because they have been identified with the APC, when in reality, they ought to have been charged to court? Ordinarily, such brazen inaction in other climes would have attracted massive condemnation and punishment. The same police that will arrest PDP members on trumped up charges?
This is a sharp pointer to the sad narrative that the force is tilting its political pendulum to favour the APC. The danger this portends to our democracy is better imagined than seen. We are shocked to see this action from the Police that should unbiasedly serve the interest of all.
Sadly, the implication of this inaction by the Police force has now encouraged members of the APC to take laws into their hands ostensibly because the power from “above” is strong enough to shield culprits ‘insured’ by APC. These confirm all our earlier concerns that APC plans to cause insecurity in Akwa Ibom State all for the 2019 general election and the police by this action, is allegedly aiding the barbarian idea.
We are aware that the state police commissioner and his 31 Divisional Police Officers have met with the Governorship Candidate of the APC and have agreed to work for the APC during the March 9 elections, as allegedly directed by the Presidency. Sadly, the same police commissioner that has not found it important to pay a courtesy visit on the State Chief Security Officer, since assumption of office,is now found in suspicious places and at unholy hours, dining with APC leaders.
We call on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to come out and display his integrity mantra, by beaming his searchlight on the activities of the security agents in Akwa Ibom, under the current Commissioner of Police. We also call Inspector General of Police and other security agencies to avoid being drawn into unnecessary gimmicks and pranks by the APC, whose principal actors are hell bent on instigating crises in the state to disrupt the smooth sail of the forthcoming general elections.
Finally, we call on all civil rights movement, international observers and the media community to join in this advocacy for the safety of the resident electoral commissioner in Akwa Ibom State, Mike Igini and the smooth conduct of the elections.
