Lekki Tollgate

Viewing of footages from the Lekki Tollgate taken by the CCTV camera on October 20, 2020, as presented by the Lagos Concession Company, LCC, managers of the Lekki Tollgate is ongoing at the sitting of the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry.

The Judicial panel had invited the managing Director, LCC to present the footages and other documentation that can aid its investigation into the Lekki shooting of October 20, 2020.

At the resumed hearing, the End SARS protester’s legal representative requested that all footages on the day of the shooting by the military be viewed but it appears it will take almost the entire day to view the footage.

Recall that the LCC had during last week’s proceeding said the camera stopped recording at about 8 pm on the fateful day. The military was said to have arrived at the scene a few minutes before 7 pm.

While this is going on, a group of Nigerian students from the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ogun state, are staging a protest at the entrance of the court of arbitration.

They are demanding justice for one of their own, 20-year-old Pelumi Onifade, a 100 level student who was allegedly arrested and killed in detention by the police during the endSARS protest.

Pelumi was said to have been freelancing with an online medium, Gboah TV, and was covering the EndSARS protest when he was arrested.

The students are also asking for a reconstitution of the Lagos Judicial Panel of Inquiry and restitution for victims of SARS related abuses by an independent body, insisting that the Lagos State Governor cannot be a judge in his own court since he invited the army on the fateful day.

The panel has so far received 73 petitions.
