The Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party PDP Lagos State Chapter, Engr Adedeji Doherty has pointed accusing fingers at the Muhammadu Buhari led APC government, stating that they have in no way protected the democracy a lot of noble Nigerians suffered and died for.
Engr Doherty made this known in Lagos, while felicitating with Nigerians and indeed Youths of the nation at this year’s Democracy Day Celebration.
He made use of the opportunity to give a lot of kudos to all those who fought for the break from the autocratic grip of military rule.
He urged the older generation of Nigerians to always think more of the future generations.
He however lashed out at the Buhari led government, stating that “The APC led government of the day, should use the Democracy Day Celebration as a time to judge themselves according to their achievements.”
He further stated that “they should ask themselves if they have really protected the democracy a lot of noble people suffered for?”
“Democracy Day would always come to the minds of Nigerians as a dark day in the history of the nation when a single act of injustice could have set the whole country ablaze,” Engr Doherty said.
He however, urged all Nigerians to look at the brighter side of Democracy Day and see it as a day of unity, when all Nigerians irrespective of ethnic, religious and political affiliation, came together as one, for one just cause and ultimately for the love of the nation.
He further urged Nigerians to remain peaceful and law abiding.
Engr Doherty also seized the opportunity to remind the Buhari administration to remember that posterity will judge them by their legacy, good or bad, when they leave office.
He called for dedicated prayers for the nation, stating that he believes in prayers as the only avenue capable of restoring peace in our nation.
He said, “I am calling on all religious leaders and all Nigerians especially our Mothers, who are naturally more patriotic and sympathetic to the yearnings and economic pulse of the Nation, to set aside the last Friday of every month to pray for the Unity of our Dear country Nigeria and most importantly for a brighter future for our youths.”
He once again congratulated all Nigerians and wished them all a Happy Democracy Day.
