A potentially catastrophic incident was narrowly avoided when a two-story building that was in the process of being constructed suddenly collapsed at 17, Olanrewaju Street, Alausa, Ikeja.
Thankfully, no casualties were reported from the incident.
Prompt action from the personnel of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Alausa Headquarters, helped mitigate the situation. The collapse occurred late Tuesday evening, seemingly due to the compromised integrity of its supporting base.
Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, confirmed the event and reassured that no lives were lost and the situation was under control. Adeseye explained, “There has been a partial second decking collapse of a two-storey building under construction having its supporting base give way. The collapse happened at 17, Olanrewaju Street, Alausa, Ikeja, close to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service headquarters. Fortunately, our crew was able to promptly handle the situation and prevent any further incidents. Thankfully, no one was trapped, and all construction workers on-site emerged unharmed.”
Meanwhile, in response to the incident, local authorities have cordoned off the structure to conduct a thorough investigation into the underlying causes of the collapse. This move underscores the commitment of the state government to ensure the safety of its citizens and prevent such incidents in the future.
